Oskar Ed: My Greatest Dream (344 pages, Lipnik, Praha, 2016) Young Oskar is bored on the back seat of the car. His mum and dad are arguing, the journey’s taking too long, and in addition it’s not even clear where they’re going. In order to avoid listening to his parents’ endless bickering, Oskar escapes into his own universe, where reality is transformed and warped in fantastical ways. However, all that takes place has its origin and parallel in the real world. Oskar gradually begins to understand forgotten family secrets, and in the powerful finale reveals the devastating truth. Oskar Ed: My Greatest Dream is an ambitious graphic novel played out on several time levels and in several spiritual worlds. It vividly illustrates the manner in which a child perceives and processes family disagreements, and demonstrates how trauma and dreams may have a great deal in common. The author worked on the book for ten years.
